Manchester United 8 Arsenal 2:

By Sport Reporter

Last updated at 6:07 PM on 28th August 2011

Manchester United gave Arsenal a masterclass at Old Trafford as they ran out emphatic 8-2 winners.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring midway through the first half before Robin van Persie missed a penalty for the visitors.
Ashley Young doubled United's advantage before Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott traded strikes before the break.
The home side put the game beyond Arsenal in the second half as Rooney, Nani and Park Ji-sung found the net.
Van Persie scored his side's second with 15 minutes later but it proved to be nothing more than a scant consolation.
Carl Jenkinson was then sent off for a second bookable offence when he bundled over Javier Hernandez on the edge of the box.
And Rooney completed his hat-trick from the spot when Walcott clipped Nani in the area before Young rounded off the rout with a exquisite curling effort.

Tottenham 1 Manchester City 5:

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 4:54 PM on 28th August 2011
Edin Dzeko scored four times as he and debutant Samir Nasri helped Manchester City put Tottenham to the sword with a ruthless display of attacking football at White Hart Lane.
Nasri supplied the crosses for Dzeko to score his first two goals and he also played his part in the run-up to Sergio Aguero's strike, which made it 4-0 with half an hour to go.
Younes Kaboul headed home a consolation goal for Tottenham, who included Luka Modric in their line-up, but the afternoon belonged to Dzeko, who clinched his hat-trick by firing in from six yards on the hour before scoring his fourth - a beautiful curling effort - with the last kick of the match.

Two years ago Tottenham beat City to fourth place and the London side ran Mancini's men close for the majority of last season, but today's result was a clear indication of how much City have progressed over the last 12 months.
Described by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp as the best in the world, City outclassed the home side in every department, with Nasri and Dzeko the stars as City emphatically earned the result that maintains their 100% league record.
The result puts them top of the Barclays Premier League table - barring similar fireworks from Manchester United against Arsenal - having now scored 12 goals. Dzeko, who was ridiculed for parts of last season, has scored six of them.
For all City's dominance, it was Tottenham who started the brighter of the two teams.
Aaron Lennon and Niko Kranjcar both came close to breaking the deadlock in the opening few minutes and Joe Hart had to scramble to his left-hand post to prevent Rafael van der Vaart from scoring.
Nasri, Aguero and David Silva all looked dangerous on the attack for City though and Dzeko's physical presence as the target man kept Michael Dawson busy in the opening stages.
Former Gunner Nasri, whose every touch was booed by the home fans, sounded a warning to the home team when he skipped through the Spurs back line only for Kaboul to put in a crucial tackle.

Hart again had to scramble across his line to Van der Vaart on two occasions, but City were growing in confidence and Friedel pulled off a good save to tip Silva's goal-bound shot wide.
The game went into a bit of a lull before City opened the scoring in the 34th minute, with Nasri the architect.
The Frenchman played a tight one-two with Aguero before floating a ball across the box which Dzeko tapped past Friedel after beating Kaboul to the ball.

A block from Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott denied Van der Vaart before Crouch went within inches of equalising.
The England striker did well to get on the end of Gareth Bale's flat cross but his diving header sneaked just wide.
The towering striker was made to pay for the miss as Nasri raced up the other end and carefully picked out Dzeko at the back post and the former Wolfsburg man arched his back to nod the away side 2-0 up.

Silva went close to making it 3-0 in first-half injury time as Spurs ended the half very much on the back foot.
Redknapp sought to end City's dominance in midfield by replacing Kranjcar with the hulking figure of Tom Huddlestone and Defoe came on for Lennon soon after, with the England winger looking to have suffered an injury.
Dzeko came within inches of completing his first City hat-trick eight minutes after the break when he glanced a header just wide of Friedel's goal.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international made amends almost immediately though when he got on the end of Yaya Toure's cross to rifle in to the roof of Friedel's goal for his sixth goal in four matches.
The home side's misery deepened just before the hour when Aguero brushed past Dawson's challenge in the box and clipped the ball over Friedel to make it 4-0.
Micah Richards came on for Zabaleta and Redknapp replaced Modric with Jake Livermore, much to the home crowd's disappointment.
Consolation: Younes Kaboul heads home for Tottenham but it proved to be too little, too late

Hart tipped over a brilliant effort from Jermain Defoe and the home side finally got themselves on the scoresheet from the resulting corner.
Kaboul lost Toure in the box and climbed well to head home Van der Vaart's corner to pull one back for Spurs.
Redknapp's troubles deepened 17 minutes from time when Van der Vaart walked down the tunnel with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Having used three substitutes, Spurs were forced to play the rest of the match with 10 men.
Dzeko was denied a fourth when Friedel saved the 25-year-old's close-range strike but his disappointment was short-lived.
The striker notched his final strike in injury time with the pick of the lot - a beautiful curler which beat Friedel at his far post to end a memorable afternoon for City and one to forget for Spurs.

More spectacular than the Taj Mahal? Stretching one hundred meters into the sky, this glistening new design could outshine anything built in India before.
The space station-style structure called Atmosphere could be constructed in Calcutta if architects have their way.

It takes its inspiration from traditional Hindu life and will contain 80 housing units which are designed for multigenerational families.
Large terraces off the main facade provide considerable outside space for each home, and special panels carrying shimmering mobile reflective disks are scattered across the building's mesh finish.
It even includes an indoor putting green.
The futuristic design is in a competition as part of the World Architecture Festival which takes place in Barcelona later this year.

Other efforts range from a clam shell to a long chocolate ribbon design.
These startling visions of future have been brought to life as part of the festival's Open Buildings People's Choice Award.

Officially know as NLF Bursa this chocolate ribbon design is designed to be a luxury residential high-rise which is topped off with a helipad.
There is also a restaurant at the top which would give diners a 360 degree unobstructed view.
It also includes a railway system and shopping centres and designers hope will be a built in Turkey.

Liverpool 3 Bolton 1:

By Joe Bernstein
Last updated at 11:42 PM on 27th August 2011
Jordan Henderson eased the pressure that accompanied his £16million price tag with his first goal for table-topping Liverpool.
And the whirlwind skills of new Kop idol Luis Suarez earned him an earsplitting ovation and the man-of-the-match champagne.

But Kenny Dalglish, manager of Liverpool's last title team in 1990, knows the significance of the win was Henderson emerging from the shadows to show he can be Liverpool's leader when Steven Gerrard eventually calls it a day.
Ever since the 20-year-old arrived from Sunderland in the summer, the one-cap England international has been used as a whipping boy for those who feel transfer fees have spiralled out of control.
Challenge: Reo-Coker slides in on Luis Suarez
Challenge: Reo-Coker slides in on Luis Suarez
So there was a definite sense of relief when he collected a pass from Dirk Kuyt, brushed past Nigel Reo- Coker and bent a left-foot finish into the top corner.
It set Liverpool on the way to a victory that sees them top of the Premier League for the first time in 840 days. Having missed a host of chances in the first half, goals from Martin Skrtel and Charlie Adam at the start of the second gave the final scoreline a proper reflection. Bolton scarcely deserved their injury-time consolation from Ivan Klasnic.

Dalglish quipped about being top: 'It's early doors, but better than being bottom.'
But he was pleased the goals were shared around even though Suarez, who gave Gary Cahill a torrid time, did not score.
'The goals were an important statement for Jordan and Charlie to make. It will give them encouragement and confidence,' he said. 'And they will gain even more satisfaction that the team won.'

Liverpool fans, who felt bereft when Fernando Torres left in January, have not had to wait long for a new hero. It was meant to be Andy Carroll, but while he finds his feet, Suarez has hit the ground running - literally at times when he goes over looking for penalties.
Suarez inevitably had a part to play in Liverpool's opening goal. An impudent cross with the outside of his right boot was met with a crashing volley by Downing. Goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen parried but the rebound fell to Kuyt, who set up Henderson to score.
Suarez then led the Bolton back line a merry dance, his talent occasionally overshadowed by histrionics when he did not get a decision he wanted from referee Lee Probert.

The only thing missing for Liverpool was a second goal. Downing took a poor first touch when played in by Suarez and allowed Paul Robinson to make a saving tackle.
Suarez also missed a one-on-one, his chip over Jaaskelainen ending up on the roof of the net. Poor Bolton were so over-run, Coyle made a tactical change after 26 minutes, with former England Under-21 international Fabrice Muamba hauled off for Mark Davies. It made little difference.
'We had to be at our best today and the galling thing is we weren't,' said Coyle. 'We got into half-time only 1-0 down so we needed to start the second half well. The opposite happened, we shot ourselves in the foot.'

Liverpool added their second in simple fashion. An outswinging corner by Adam was met with a thumping header by Skrtel, substitute for the injured Martin Kelly. A minute later, it was 3-0. Kuyt laid a pass square to Adam and the Scot drilled a low finish into Jaaskelainen's bottom right-hand corner.
Watching on were Gerrard, who cannot wait to get back from a groin injury, and their next signing, £7m Uruguay Under-20 defender Sebastian Coates.
The rest of the game saw a comical sideshow starring Suarez and the match officials. He went all buggle- eyed when Probert turned down his appeal for a backpass to goalkeeper Jaaskelainen. Dalglish wisely took the Uruguayan off minutes later to stop him getting into trouble, and the Kop nearly took the roof off to acclaim their new hero.
Less funny from Liverpool was Klasnic's consolation in injury-time to deny them a clean sheet. It does not deny them top spot, though. 'We passed and moved and people were entertained,' said Dalglish. It could be the Eighties all over again.

Chelsea 3 Norwich 1: Drogba-Torres combination fails again but it's no Mata for Blues in late show at the Bridge

By Rob Draper

Come the final whistle it was hard to find fault with Chelsea. Juan Mata had scored a fine debut goal, Romelu Lukaku had looked a vibrant, muscular addition to the side and manager Andre Villas-Boas had secured another home win.
Indeed, for 20 minutes yesterday, Chelsea looked like a side in control.
That was the final 20 minutes, when Norwich has been reduced to 10 men and Didier Drogba, who suffered a serious head injury in a collision with John Ruddy, and Fernando Torres, one goal in 22 games and counting, had been withdrawn.

Given the potential gravity of Drogba's concussion it would be churlish to dwell once again on the incompatibility of his partnership with Torres.

Better to focus on how good Lukaku, Mata and Nicolas Anelka looked as a front line. That told the story.

When Mata snaffled up the third goal, smashing the ball past substitute goalkeeper Declan Rudd in the 10th minute of injury time, it epitomised the difference.

True, it took a loose ball by a tired Ritchie De Laet to allow Mata in.

He seized the ball deep on the right-hand side of the area and the energy with which he pursued it was in stark contrast to that of Drogba and Torres earlier in the game.
Equally, Lukaku, a heavyweight boxer of a player, looked athletic and spritely, complementing Mata and Anelka with well-timed runs and a desire to please.

Villas-Boas attempted to speak up for the seemingly doomed partnership but ended up also conceding their weakness.
'They showed some quality and some of the technical actions were chipped balls, which were not very precise technically,' he said.

'Mata found some good spaces today for a player with only two training sessions. He showed some quickness and the team helped him find the spaces. Lukaku and Nico (Anelka) coming on helped the fluency of our team. In the first-half we had technical mistakes in passing and control, which didn't give us the correct fluency.'

The requirement for a midfield creator in the mould of Luka Modric looks ever more pressing.

Anelka was outstanding, the highlight being the delightful through ball for Ramires to run on to, which exposed Norwich's defence and led to the decisive penalty in the 81st minute.

At that stage of the game, Chelsea were playing on the break. It was Norwich who were on the offensive, buoyed by a superbly-executed volleyed goal by Grant Holt.

Steve Morison might have given them the lead 13 minutes later, had he not delayed his strike and allowed John Terry to make a saving tackle.

'We could have been 2-1 up,' said manager Paul Lambert. 'I thought we were excellent and I couldn't have asked for anything more. The penalty changed the game.'

When Chelsea opened the scoring on six minutes, with a Jose Boswinga strike from 25 yards, it seemed a comfortable afternoon was ahead.

Norwich's back five, a formation inspired by Lambert's days in the Bundesliga, were allowing Chelsea space in midfield and Boswinga simply exploited their inability to close down the ball.

Yet Norwich began to threaten even before they changed formation after half an-hour because of a hamstring injury to Zak Whitbread.

Holt got in behind the defence but could only flick the ball at Hilario and Wesley Hoolahan played in Chris Martin who was denied by the keeper.

When Kyle Naughton swung in a cross in the 63rd minute, Hilario came but never collected and Branislav Ivanovic, colliding with his keeper, headed out weakly and Holt turned the ball in with exquisite skill.

Shortly afterwards came the collision between Ruddy and Drogba, which looked accidental but saw the Ivorian crash to the ground, unconscious.
Norwich continued to press until that quick Chelsea breakaway on 81 minutes.
Anelka played in Ramires, who, racing towards goal, was felled by Ruddy.

It was a clear red card, though it didn't require Chelsea fitness coach Jose-Mario Rocha to stride into the opposition's technical area in a frenzy, provoking a shoving match with Lambert and his staff.
