Nape rebuffs Chadema demand for apology

Nape Nnauye

Dares party to go to court
Claims to have evidence to prove claims
CCM's ideology and publicity secretary Nape Nnauye (pictured) yesterday refused to apologise to Chadema, advising the party to go to court because he has proof of what he had said about the party's fund-raising tactics.
Nnauye, who is blamed for falsely accusing Chadema of obtaining funds from foreign donors, said his party's lawyers are now preparing a demand note for Chadema secretary general Dr Wilbroad Slaa to apologize to him and pay a compensation amounting to 3bn/-.
According to Nnauye, Dr Slaa issued a misleading statement during the 2010 general elections accusing CCM of importing a container full of weapons and ballot papers. Nnauye’s response come amid Chadema’s seven days ultimatum for him to for apologise and pay 3bn/- compensation for falsely accusing it of obtaining funds from foreigners and soliciting donations from poor Tanzanians while it has already received billions of shillings from foreign donors for its operations.
“I have all the evidence to prove my statements…I have received their demand note but I am not going to apologise… let’s meet in court,” said Nape, adding that Dr Slaa’s domand note will be ready in seven days. Nape said what he told the media on August 12, this year, is the CCM stand since he is the party’s official spokesperson.
He said if Chadema fails to file a case against him, he would publicise a confidential contract which he claimed was in CCM possession.
On Sunday, Chadema gave seven days to Nape to apologise and pay 3bn/- compensation, threatening to sue him if he failed to comply. It demanded that he use the same channels he employed on August 12, this year, to apologise, adding that the compensation demand is meant to punish him.
Addressing a public rally during Operation Sangara in Kilosa district, Morogoro region, recently, Slaa dismissed Nape’s allegations, saying they aimed at tarnishing Chadema good image.
Addressing journalists on August 12, this year, Nape claimed that his party had sufficient evidence to prove that Chadema had received billions of shillings from its foreign donors to fund the party’s ongoing 'Movement for Change campaigns.
