Mwakyembe: I`ll fight on, but no grudges

Deputy Works minister Dr Harrision Mwakyembe back from treatment in India, yesterday vowed to continue fighting corruption and other vices, but without harbouring any grudges against those who might have engineered his fate.
“I am leaving it to the almighty God to decide…I have no plan to revenge,” he said at his Bahari Beach residence, during an exclusive interview with journalists from IPP Media yesterday.
The Kyela MP, who is recovering from severe skin disorder, returned from India where he had been receiving specialised treatment for two months.
His health problems sparked countless and contradicting speculations, with some people linking it to his non-stop fight against graft and related vices in the public and private circles.
Mwakyembe refused to disclose details of a report prepared by Indian doctors about his sickness, only saying that it had already been submitted to the government of Tanzania.
“I cannot speak anything about my doctors’ report…let’s wait for the government to work on it in accordance with the laid down state procedures and regulations,” said Mwakyembe, in response to journalists’ questions.
He said it was against procedures “for me to start disclosing contents of the report before the government had gone through it…I cannot do that,” explaining: “There are aspects which would need the government’s explanation, but there are also aspects which would require my explanation… all in all, we should be patient…when time is ripe, I will talk, there is nothing to hide.”
On whether his present health complications have some links with his spirited crusade against corruption in the country, the outspoken MP said he had gone to India for treatment and not “for witch-hunting.”
“If there is a hand of anybody in my health, all this would be stated clearly in the doctors’ report. I cannot say anything at the moment.
Asked if his state of health would deter him from the crusade he had embarked on, Mwakyembe said he would not change his stance and spirit in fighting against corruption, noting: “There is nothing or anybody who can stop me from defending the rights of poor and marginalized Tanzanians.”
“Mwakyembe would remain the same…he will not change,” said the legislator, stressing that he was not threatened by his health condition, vowing to continue crusading against corruption and evil-free country, but without harbouring grudges.
For his part, Kyela District Council Chairman, Gabriel Kipija, one of the representatives from Kyela constituency, who visited Mwakyembe at his residence yesterday, claimed well-connected networks of grand corruption suspects were behind Mwakyembe’s health.
“Mwakyembe did not want to speak the truth, but we all know that corrupt individuals are behind his current health condition. But their attempt will not discourage him from fighting against corruption in Tanzania…Kyela leaders and residents would continue supporting him… we are all behind him in this fight,” he declared
