Schalke 1-6 Real Madrid:

Gareth Bale was close to unplayable as Real Madrid all but sealed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The £86million forward scored two and made two as Real ran riot against a poor Schalke side in Gelsenkirchen, winning 6-1 with ease.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti praised Bale's performance after the match, describing it as his 'best game of the season'.
The nine-time winners had only won once before in 25 trips to Germany but victory was never in doubt at the Veltins-Arena with Real's most potent attacking weapons coming to the fore.
Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo also scored twice as an insatiable Madrid left Schalke requiring a miracle at the Bernabeu in three weeks time despite Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scoring the goal of the night in time added-on.
Schalke won a corner in the first minute and nearly took the lead but captain Benedikt Howedes' header from distance drifted wide of Iker Casillas' right-hand post.

Real were building pressure and Ronaldo was clearly keen to get in on the goalscoring act as he brought down an Angel Di Maria pass and surged forward but his shot from the edge of the area came back off the post and safely into the arms of Ralf Fahrmann.
The visitors were now looking a threat every time they came forward and Ronaldo looked certain to score as he latched onto Di Maria's through-ball but Fahrmann did well to save with his feet.
Schalke were under fire as the break approached as first Benzema fired wide from Marcelo's cross and Fahrmann made another close-range save from Ronaldo but they made it to the interval without sustaining further damage.

Ronaldo was not to be outdone and had his brace in the 88th minute as substitute Isco and Benzema combined to release him and he calmly slotted past the keeper. There was still time for former Real striker Huntelaar to net a stunning consolation when he volleyed home from the edge of the area after Christian Fuchs' cross to see Casillas beaten for the first time in 10 appearances, but it is likely to be of little consequence. After the game Schalke captain Howedes said: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo was everywhere. Schalke boss Jens Keller was left to rue a series of mistakes by his side, including Draxler's missed header in the first half.
He said: ‘We knew that Real would use the space we would give them after they scored the opener and they simply punished us for every mistake we made. We are a young team who still have lots to learn at this level.
‘We had a good start, played bravely until we conceded the opener. A mistake allowed Real to score the opener but we immediately had the chance for the equaliser.
‘These types of chances don’t come along that often against a side like Real.

Wrong foot? I don't have a wrong foot! Zlatan typically cool after wonder goal in rout of Leverkusen

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored another stunner to add to his back catalogue, but was typically blasé when asked about it afterwards.
The Swede thundered a third Paris Saint-Germain goal in the 4-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday that could have taken the roof off.
It was Ibrahimovic's ninth goal in five Champions League fixtures this year and he looks set to add to that as the French club seem likely to progress to the quarter-finals.

Chelsea 1 Man City 2:

Sergio Aguero provided a Jekyll and Hyde contribution to Manchester City's FA Cup semi-final triumph over Chelsea.
The brilliant South American scored the second-half goal that ended up booking a meeting with Wigan next month. But he was also fortunate to escape a red card after a nasty challenge on David Luiz.
With Samir Nasri also on target for City, it was enough to repel a spirited Chelsea revival after Demba Ba had pulled one back.

The triumph keeps City manager Roberto Mancini in with a chance of extending his trophy-winning sequence to three seasons, which will answer his critics, who claim this campaign has been one of under-performance for the big-spending Blues.
That Chelsea went out with neither John Terry nor Frank Lampard being asked to make any contribution was the clearest indication yet that Rafael Benitez is presiding over a changing of the guard, even if he will be replaced as well during the summer.
Terry and Lampard have been part of all seven Chelsea FA Cup triumphs at this revamped stadium . At least they were on the bench - Ashley Cole did not even make it that far.
Petr Cech may be another survivor from Jose Mourinho's time but the keeper remains an integral figure. And needing a fifth winners' medal to shove David Seaman out his share of being the most successful goalkeeper in the competition's history, Cech had a particular reason to impress.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero celebrates with Samir Nasri
It certainly seemed like it anyway given the brilliance of his early save to deny Aguero.
The Czech Republic international had set himself to deny Yaya Toure. That Aguero got his foot to the Ivorian's effort and steered it even closer to the corner just made Cech's plunge to the right more remarkable.
Cech then denied Carlos Tevez as City continued their fast start, with Chelsea hardly in the contest until skipper Vincent Kompany cleared Eden Hazard's mis-hit volley off the line.
That chance came about because Costel Pantilimon flapped at a cross.
With silverware so close, there had been a feeling Mancini would restore Joe Hart to his FA Cup starting line-up.
Clearly, Mancini has plenty of faith in the Romanian, just as the City fans have so much in their manager.

Dejected: Chelsea players are left to regroup after watching their FA Cup final dream evaporate
For it was the Italian's name that was sung loudest and longest after Nasri had broken the deadlock.
The sight of Toure powering at any defence is enough to get them quaking.
And Chelsea seemed spooked by the midfielder lumbering towards their box, which meant Aguero was afforded too much space when the short pass came.
He quickly flicked it onto Nasri, whose attempt at a return, resulted in a couple of fortunate rebounds and the perfect opportunity to lash home.

It is only a couple of weeks ago that Mancini said he wanted to punch Nasri for failing to produce top-class performances often enough.
That is was Nasri's first goal since October tells its own story.
But presumably, all is forgiven - for a little while at least.
When Aguero spun away from Branislav Ivanovic and headed home Gareth Barry's cross straight after the restart, all Chelsea hope seemed lost.
Rarely can a substitute have had such an immediate impact as Fernando Torres.

For, as play restarted following his 65th-minute introduction, David Luiz drove a long ball to the edge of
City's box, Torres flicked it on and Ba superbly hooked it in.
It ended City's chances of becoming only the fourth team to lift the trophy without conceding a goal and injected Chelsea with some much-needed self-belief.
Pantilimon saved at the feet of Juan Mata, then produced a wonderful stop to deny Ba.
It was spellbinding stuff, which just made Aguero's two-footed lunge at Luiz all the more stupid.
Had Chris Foy seen it, City would have been left with just 10 men.
Benched: Chelsea's John Terry (left) and Frank Lampard were unused substitutes at Wembley

As he didn't, Aguero was still around for Torres to run his studs down the back of his calf, although in neither instance did any injury result.
It left a sour taste, although as it happened within the general run of play, it is unlikely Aguero will face any retrospective action.
Instead, he will return to this stadium in four weeks' time and aim to add another FA Cup to City's expanding trophy collection.

More than 100 passengers had a miracle escape today after a plane crashed into the sea as it attempted to land off the coast of Bali.
Eyewitnesses said passengers fearing for their lives screamed in panic as the Lion Air jet fell short of the runway at Ngurah Rai Airport, near Denparsar.
The aircraft, carrying 101 passengers and seven crew members, smashed into the sea prompting a huge rescue effort

Terrified passengers were pictured fleeing from the stricken plane, with many waiting on its wings as rescuers launched a dramatic rescue effort.
Dewi, a passenger who sustained head wounds in the crash, relived the horrific moment the plane crashed into the water: 'The aircraft was in landing position when suddenly I saw it getting closer to the sea, and finally it hit the water.

'All of the passengers were screaming in panic in fear they would drown. I left behind my belongings and went to an emergency door. I got out of the plane and swam before rescuers jumped in to help me.'
The airport is known for its runway which extends out into the ocean.

AIRLINE HIT BY DRUGS SCANDAL

The plane which crashed was owned by Lion Air, whose company motto is: We Make People Fly.
It is Indonesia's largest privately-run airline company, securing the largest share of the domestic market.
The operator is currently banned from flying with the European Union because of concerns over its safety levels.
The company has recently been involved in a scandal - in January last year Indonesia's Transportation Ministry said that a number of crew members had been found in possession of crystal meth. Their licences were revoked.
The airline flies to major cities around Indonesia, as well as other routes in South East Asia, taking passengers to Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and even Saudi Arabia.
Established in 1999, the company started out using a single Boeing 737-200.
Lion Air is a low-cost carrier that holds about a 45 percent market share in Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago that's seeing a boom in both economic growth and air travel.
Lion inked a $24 billion deal last month to buy 234 Airbus planes, the biggest order ever for the French aircraft maker. It also gave Boeing its largest-ever order when it finalized a deal for 230 planes last year. The planes will be delivered from 2014 through 2026.
Many of the passengers escaped through emergency doors which opened half way along the fuselage and made their way to the shore in inflatable yellow dinghies.
After being evacuated off the plane, they were taken to the airport terminal for treatment.
Airport officials said that several people were injured in the crash, but the extent of their injuries were not known.
Lion Air is currently banned from flying with the European Union because of concerns over its safety levels.
Pictures from the scene show the passenger jet with its distinctive red Lion name on the side lying partially submerged in the water near rocks at the end of the runway.
The plane had broken its back - the rear section drooped further into the water and a large split could be seen in the last portion of the jet.
Other passengers milled about at the airport as police and officials attempted to establish what had happened to cause the jet to crash into the sea.
Bali Police Chief Arif Wahyunadi said: 'All passengers and crew have been taken off the aircraft as it lies in the sea.
'They are being attended to at the airport.'
Up to 45 people were taken to several different hospitals for treatment.
I Made Krisna Maharta, an official with Bali's search and rescue agency, said all of the passengers and crew were safely rescued. He said initial reports showed there were 101 passengers and seven crew members aboard the plane.
Mr Wahyunadi said the jet had originated in the city of Bandung, Indonesia's third largest city - a tourist attraction because of its ancient architecture.

Kompany: We're one of Europe's elite now like Barca and United

Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City stand shoulder to shoulder with Manchester United and Barcelona among Europe’s ‘big clubs’.
The captain says expectations at the Etihad Stadium have risen beyond recognition since Sheik Mansour’s Abu Dhabi-based consortium completed their buy-out in 2009 and an ‘incredible turnaround’ has occurred on and off the pitch.
The comments came as Manchester City travelled down to Wembley by train.

Kompany described the current season as a ‘rollercoaster’ on the eve of the FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea, but was eager to remind fans who are unhappy with the defending champions’ Premier League form, despite Monday’s 2-1 win at United, how far City have evolved.
Belgium star Kompany said: ‘We’ve made a massive progression, not just on the field but off the field as well. The club work and function like a big club, and that couldn’t be said two years ago.

‘People forget this is a turnaround that has happened over four or five years. It’s incredible and in that sense I believe we have overachieved.
‘But now that we’ve set the standard we cannot go under it again.’
